My week started off innocent enough. It was the first day that it really felt like Spring outside. I went to Baker Park to make a warm weather feature.

I hadn’t been there for 20 minutes when some kids showed with toy guns - or so I thought.

No. They weren’t real guns. But they were airsoft guns and probably didn’t belong on a playground.

Some parents called 911 and reported these kids. While the kids weren’t shooting at anyone, I think parents were concerned with ricochet.

That was Monday.

Wednesday brought something much more exciting, journalisticly speaking.

I was headed back into New Castle after spending the morning grabbing some shots in Knightstown (which is in the southern part of Henry County). My phone rang. It was my news editor letting me know that an armed robbery had just taken place (but of course it was in the northern part of the county).

I arrived in time to watch officers from Henry and Randolph counties along with Indiana State Troopers  search the bright orange truck that was used as a getaway vehicle and the surrounding property.

After deciding jurisdiction, both of the suspects were transferred into the custody of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.

The weapon wasn’t recovered until the next day.

Every now and then, I like to Google search my name. I used to just look for rank placement of my website. I am proud to say that if you Google search “Max Gersh,” my website is the first to appear.

Recently, I have followed the pages a bit deeper to see where my name and pictures are showing up. I have found my pictures being displayed on sites all over the web.

I first noticed this after I took a snow feature that has nearly become viral in the sporting world.

By no means do I consider this a “great” photo but it sure has stirred up Cardinals/Cubs rivalry. Both published versions of my shot made it on Urban Prankster. I appreciate the second commenter, Melissa. “There could not be better photography in this world.” I might disagree but thank you.

Again, both versions of my photo appeared on a baseball site called Home Run Derby. Another baseball site called Ball Hype ran one as well. And Yard Barker. And Sportsnipe. And MLB USA. And PopFi. And The Large Morning Show in the Afternoon. And so on.

Let’s not forget that it was first published on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Website.

The most supprising link for the Cubs Suck photo was the Chicago Sun-Times. Their blogger, Kevin Allen (a Mizzou grad), thought the message in the snow was a bit harsh. I find it funny because I don’t even like baseball.

Another photo of mine I found on the web was one I shot in Rolla, MO of the Discovery Channel filiming a new show called The Detonators.

The story and photo were picked up and ran in the Springfield News-Leader and the Kansas City Star.

I also found a portrait I shot of an environmental economist on the McClatchy-Tribune wire.

As I dug deeper, I found a photo I shot of the Delmar Loop on a blog called Bad Black Girls.

On top of that, I found endless links to my work at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Alton Telegraph, my personal website and my blog.

My web presence is constantly changing. It is interesting to see who picks up your work and who reads what you write.

I just posted a blog to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch PICTURES blog about a unique photo from the inauguration today.

Hey all. I’m sorry I haven’t posted here for a while.

For those of you that don’t know, I have been interning at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch since the end of October. That has kept me pretty busy.

The internship has also required me to blog the St. Louis Post-Dispatch PICTURES blog. All staff photographers also have to Twitter and all of our tweets are aggregated onto the photo page on our site. If you Twitter, you can follow me under the name pd_cameraman.

Another reason I haven’t posted much here is because I’ve been making major upgrades. I haven’t completely switched over yet (obviously) but I am redesigning my blog to handle larger pictures. You can preview it here. Tell me what you think. What would you like to see? Thanks for being patient with me.
